I split up with a long term relationship with my then fiancé and subsequently lost all confidence and my weight increased – especially when I found out completely by accident that after telling me that there was no other woman involved, he had actually been seeing the woman that he is now engaged to for some time whilst with he was still with me. So you can imagine I was at a bit of a ‘low’ to put it mildly! As I am a ‘comfort’ eater, I found myself ballooning even more to size 18 (I am 5’9”) – which is about 3 stones above my normal / ideal weight.
After a pretty miserable few months feeling sorry for myself I started to look about for the best way to get the eating back under control and shift the excess pounds. A friend of mine had had great results with Diet Freedom and had lost over 4 stone - she has PCOS which she had said made weight loss very difficult for her. I am absolutely opposed to faddy diets and so approached the whole thing fairly sceptically. However I was reassured not only by her success but also by the no nonsense and friendly approach of the website plus the credibility of the people behind it backed up by the research
So, I joined as an online Diet Freedom member and had some EFT sessions which worked brilliantly for cravings (they also have 3 books out which are great to use in addition) and am thrilled to say I have lost almost 3 stone in 8 1/2 months! Being an online club member means no meetings to attend – it’s much more convenient for me to be able to log on to the website and get support and questions answered whenever I need it and I simply wouldn’t be able to turn up at a set time and place each week, my life’s just not like that!
I now feel incredibly confident, and, an added bonus of a side effect that I wasn’t expecting, it seems to have balanced my moods and hormones too - my PMT is not nearly as bad as it was. The Diet Freedom concept is 'freedom from diets' and it certainly is that – I have not felt hungry or deprived whatsoever It is based around research led healthy eating advice along with lowering your daily GL or (Glycaemic Load) and is an advanced and more effective stage on from GI. At face value it’s also pretty simple, and you actually don’t have to understand the science – I couldn’t tell you the detailed ins and outs of it, I just know which foods to avoid, and how to eat best for my body, and there is no counting or weighing which are such a turn off – who lives like that?! Also, a benefit was that the large proportion of the diet was based on foodstuffs that I already liked and was eating anyway – I just had to tweak it slightly and introduce a few new things and lowering my intake on others – now how easy is that?! My life is pretty hectic too, so the increased energy I have is a big bonus.
Now I’m at the size I want to be I have relaxed a little and am good 80% of the time with the odd lapse. My taste buds have changed, however, and I really don’t like the sweet sugary or refined stuff now. I am normally a bit too lazy to write and endorse products etc, but as this case is so special to me, I have to say a huge massive thank you to all the wonderfully helpful people at Diet Freedom. I feel finally free from wretched diets forever! Thanks to you …

My top tips for losing the weight are:
- Plan all meals and snacks in advance and then shop for them specifically.
- Make a double meal so you have something ready for the next night if you will be back late or busy. The plans in The 7 Day GL Diet book makes this easy.
- Snacks are really crucial (especially one mid-afternoon) otherwise I'd get back from work too hungry and tired in the evening to make a healthy choice.
- Have dressings with olive oil or an occasional spoon of mayonnaise or butter: it made me feel fuller than ‘low fat’ versions and I ate less.
- Eating out is easy - order my meal with ‘extra veg or salad instead of chips’
- Hang an outfit that you want to look good in on the back of the bedroom door for motivation.
- Make curry or other meat dishes with plenty of sauce and then served them with bags of shredded mixed cabbage, broccoli and leek (M&S do one called ‘crunchy mix’) instead of rice. Once the sauce is poured over you can’t tell the difference!
- On a Saturday, my husband and I liked to go out for breakfast and I'd choose the ‘full English’ option without toast or hash browns – I never felt like I was missing out.
