Weight Loss Success
"The GL diet has been instrumental in helping me get back to my pre-pregnancy weight. It's more than a diet though and has just become a way of life. I've got so much energy and don't have any of those food cravings I'd always associated with diets and healthy eating - I love it!" Mishal Husain, BBC News reader

Emotional Freedom Technique is a highly effective method for relieving anxiety, stress, emotional trauma, addictive cravings, and many forms of distress. We do not fully understand how and why this and other 'energy psychology' methods work, but there is increasing evidence that they can achieve results far beyond those of purely talk-based approaches. Testimonials for EFT
I didn’t believe it would work but when I tapped, my strong craving for chocolate just went. I didn’t have any desire for chocolate for 3 weeks. Now I just have it as an occasional treat.
NP, Richmond
I just wanted to thank you for the EFT session last week. I've done the tapping every day and it seems to have changed my feelings about food on a very deep level. I just don't feel the need to ‘pig out’ late at night anymore, and I've noticed I'm eating more healthily during the day. Can it really be this easy?!
MT, Enfield
When you told me I could lose weight without using will power, I laughed, but that is exactly what has happened. I've lost more than a stone over the last few weeks, without even trying.
CN, Ponders End
Since I stopped binging on bread every day, the weight keeps falling off me, I've lost the sick, bloated feeling, and I have tons more energy. The best part is, I'm not even struggling with myself. Right after our consultation, I went straight to the cupboard but then I realised I didn't want it anymore.
HC, Birmingham
Our second session really helped me to understand why I kept losing weight then putting it all back on. The tapping has allowed me to let go of a lot of the emotional turmoil which was the underlying cause of my overeating. I've also noticed a lot of other changes in myself. I'm a much calmer person now, and I find I'm sleeping much better too. Thank you so much.
VB, Finchley
I was very sceptical about the idea of EFT but I had a one to one session and it was enlightening. I spoke about my toast addiction, I could eat six slices in one sitting plus a meal. By the way I was 17 ½ stones and now I am 15 stones and have about 4 more to lose. I suffer from sciatica and need many hospital attendances and strong pain killers.
Iain spoke to me at length and did some tapping and during all this I found out my over eating had to do with some deep emotional issues I had with my family. The addiction is reduced up to present, I still eat toast but the craving is markedly reduced and sometimes I can do without. EFT has helped with my will power, when I get the urge to eat or the pain starts I start tapping, so as you can see I use it as pain and appetite control. I will recommend EFT to others.

Testimonials for EFT sessions with Carey Mann
Carey has helped me enormously, both with my desire to lose weight and with my mental state. Carey very quickly identified many issues I had with food and success and I continue to be surprised at how effective EFT is for me and how good her telephone sessions are. Carey has a wonderful gift as well as being an incredible, caring human being.
Rob Wyborn
I had a session with Carey yesterday on the phone doing EFT and am amazed at what came out and the positive experience and feeling that I felt after. There is a lot of childhood issues that need sorting out, I knew that there was issues but she opened flood gates when touching on one subject. I feel that I can now deal with them and am going to book a few more sessions with her. When I was a Weightwatchers leader I always said to members get it right in the head and the rest will follow.
Lorraine, Diet Freedom member
I've lost 3 stone and it hasn't crept back! I have struggled with my weight for many years and have tried every conceivable diet, some of the diets were great but the weight never stayed off, it always crept back. I heard a friend talking about EFT and decided to give it a try. I must confess that it's been an emotional rollercoaster but it was worth it in the end Carey has been an amazing emotional and spiritual guide who I would recommend to anyone seeking to free themselves of emotional baggage.
Margaret, Colchester
I've found EFT to be extremely helpful, particularly in dealing with stress and anxiety. I find Carey to be an intuitive, perceptive and supportive therapist with a great ability to guide me to the core of the issue. As I understand EFT better, I'm discovering new and exciting ways to apply it every day, to help alleviate anything from headaches to frustration to tiredness to anxiety .... you name it!
Margaret, Leamington Spa
Carey Mann and EFT have helped me a great deal. Since utilising EFT I am more outgoing and willing to go places, happier with food and resolving issues with past experiences and how I see myself. I am more confident and hopeful. Well, all that is left to say is: Thank you Carey and EFT! If you do have a problem try EFT – it works where modern medicine often cannot. It has for me!

Diet Testimonials
My doctor told me I was pre Type 2 diabetic on 17th Jan. My blood pressure was pretty high too. He told me to 'try' and lose some weight and try and do some exercise. After some research I started eating the GL way and using the recipes in the GL Cookbook.
Now, after 12 weeks on 11th April, I have lost 13kg (28.5lb), my blood pressure is down close to normal, AND my blood sugar levels have only once gone high, and that was only just in the high range. In fact this has all been so successful that I will carry on with this way of eating permanently. I can thoroughly recommend both the GL diet method and also www.dietfreedom.co.uk. Via email 11th April 2011. Arthur Green, age 61 from South Elmham, Suffolk
I have been controlling my hypoglycaemia for 4 months now. This has been the most amazing discovery for me. I eat every 3 or 4 hours the low GL way, although occasionally I will have a sugary treat if I go out to eat, but not very often. I have experienced no 'hypo's'. Without trying at all, I have dropped weight from 12 stone to 10 stone 3 pounds and look much better than before. There will be no going back for me. THIS WORKS! I just wish everyone in the world would realise that food tastes fantastic without sugar in or on it. I was addicted for years, the freedom from emotional rollercoasters is wonderful and leaves more time to live my life. I love it. Lesley, Diet Freedom member
Thank you for the end to years of yo-yoing up and down trying every diet available (I could start a shop with all my books) if only I had known that my problem was eating too many high GL foods that send my blood sugars out of whack and make me feel depressed at the same time leading to, yes you guessed it eating more of the same rubbish food! I now follow a low GL diet, still have my treats and 'feel' good for the first time in many years. 15 pounds off so far and 12 to go and I don't feel in any way deprived in fact I enjoy my food far more now and feel it is actually doing me good! Diane Saunders, Book reader
I have already bought – and LOVE – your GL Cookbook and Diet Plan. I think the section on herbs and spices and their history and ideas for uses is quite brilliant – really. (Incidentally, boil mint in water to get rid of fish cooking smells!) I have read it right through and I wanted to join the club not least to be able to get some support and answers to queries. Chrissie, Book reader & Diet Freedom member
I joined your site at beginning of this week and have been doing GL for 2 weeks now and lost 7lb :o) I love this way of eating. Already I have loads more energy, I am full nearly all the time and the lovely feeling of feeling full even though I might not have eaten for a couple of hours which is the first time I have ever felt this good. I have tried loads of the recipe's and adore the ginger and pecan cookies (and so do my friends) LOL. Catherine, Diet Freedom member
I am very impressed with your web site - it is very clear to follow, user-friendly, and with excellent and varied recipes. What a relief this is to me, an OAP who has suffered a life time of struggling with yo-yo weight gain/weight loss tendencies. Well done, and thank you!
Mary Peacock, Diet Freedom member
Thanks for all the great recipes. I haven't really used the website much this time but I have managed to get to 60 1/2 kg. Very happy with that. And I use EFT almost every day for everything!! Thanks and I will recommend you to anyone who asks me for a good, well put together website. Gill Taylor, Diet Freedom member
I'm fairly new to this site and I love it. The meals and menu planners are so easy and quick to use! Thanks very much. Ceri Wilkinson, Diet Freedom member
I started out trying to avoid a type 2 diabetes diagnosis (which I've done!) and stumbled accross the GL eating approach through my own research and then your website via the diabetes UK website. This spurned a complete about-turn in my lifestyle that I wasn't convinced I'd achieve (I deliberately didn't take a "before" photo because I didn't want to temp fate). I'd been living in denial about my size and because I'm 6'3" tall was able to convince myself I wasn't really overweight. Nearly 4 stone down proves I was wrong and that it can be done and my fitness has improved to a level where I'm considering the london marathon next year. (I used to scoff at such foolishness). Paul W, Diet Freedom member
HI! The good news is that I've lost about 8lbs. The even better news is that when I went to the GP yesterday my cholesterol was 4.8, rather than the more worrying 6.8 at the end of November. Many thanks Amanda G, Diet Freedom member
A great website and great recipes, thanks! Sound nutritional advice at last! Jo D, Diet Freedom member
Just want to say how much I am enjoying the diet. I don't particularly need to lose much weight but want to eat a healthy diet. I've been eating the low GL way for just over a week and I feel great. No junk in my body. I have also lost weight even though I've eaten quite a lot more than I could fit in the palms of my hands! Thanks for a diet that is realistic - no mung beans or heaps of rabbit food - and tasty. None of the recipes I have tried so far have been a disappointment and I am a bit of a foodie who loves to cook!
Jeannette B, Diet Freedom member
Just checked my progress and initial weight was 16st 4, so that is nearly a stone in a month which is very encouraging and the best thing is I don't feel deprived of a thing or as if I am dieting in the usual sense of the word.
Debbie J, Diet Freedom member
I would have loved to take part in your diet trial but I don't need to as I am very slim now! Thanks to your GL diet book / diet I have lost over four stones over 10 months and I have now been at the stable weight of 8 stones 5 for the last 3 months. I love cooking and I have all the GL diet books that you have printed. When are you going to do another cookbook? I don't wish to join online as I suffer for bad pain in my wrist and avoid to use the computer as much as possible but I must say a big thank you to the whole team. You 've allowed me to change my life and still enjoy my food.
Thanks again
Beatrice, Book reader
I had a play on it last night and was very impressed with the website. It looks lovely, the website drew me in to want to access it further and I found it very easy to use. I was also impressed to see the forum being used.
Rachel, Wellbeing Magazine Editor
Due to medication I had put on almost 2 stone in a year. Unfortunately, I have to take this medication (steroids) again. I have been following a low GL diet for about a month and have to my amazement lost 11 lbs and feel so much better and positive about everything.

I just wanted to let you know that I love the new website. It's often not 'just about food' for those of us, like myself, who have issues with their weight. I love the more holistic direction that Diet Freedom appears to be taking - and I'm firmly on board!

It’s nearly 2 stone that I have lost (14 kilos ish?) I am being very good and sticking to DF / GL ideals, plus the swimming an hour a day, and the walking..the walking..the walking. I was put onto it by my doctor helping me lower my blood pressure and cholesterol. I have been with Diet Freedom (DF) for 6 weeks and the change has made me a new person. I have the energy and zing to be full time Mum / Wife / Dog Walker / Housemaid ... etc plus I also do some analytical work from home.

Hi, my name is Kate and I had a big row from my GP for not controlling my diabetes. So I went on to the Diabetes UK website and they directed me here. I looked at the eating plan and thought, well I'll try this and see if it does any good. The result - my blood sugar is returning to normal and without even trying I've lost 9lbs in a fortnight - only know that cos GP makes me get weighed when I go to see her. Never felt hungry and I've even had some 70% cocoa chocolate.
Kate, Diet Freedom member
I've lost 7 ½ stone using the Diet Freedom plan. It is the most logical approach to losing weight I have found. This way of eating becomes second nature, it makes you feel really good, and so maintaining that weight loss has not been difficult. It has had a really positive impact on the family as well - they have lost weight as a knock on effect, and we all feel so much more healthy and energetic. With a child in nursery you expect to get a few bugs coming home on a fairly regular basis but we have also noticed that minor ailments such as colds seem to be a thing of the past.

I am a doctor, specialising in orthopaedics (bones & joints), and I meet many patients in need of reducing body weight for the benefit of their health. I can recommend, from personal experience, the low GL approach to healthy eating for weight control. I have had to be very vigilant of my own weight for as long as I can remember and have, in the past been significantly over weight (peak BMI = 32). I became increasingly interested in eating to manage insulin resistance since being diagnosed with PCOS in 2004. Changing my eating pattern has helped me to regulate my energy levels, by avoiding peaks and troughs of blood sugar. And I hope very much that it is working away on the underlying problems with my metabolism. In particular I sincerely wish to reduce the potential impact on my future health with regard to diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease. I initially pursued a low GI diet principle but started to feel increasingly frustrated with the apparent high risk foods such as cooked carrots and sweetcorn. Not only did I miss eating them it seemed strange to me to limit vegetables, I could appreciate how some fruits could have too much available sugar but veg?! I had also felt uneasy about unlimited amounts of pasta or other low GI carbohydrate staples and foods such as cheese. In fact I had continued to weigh these foods and control my portion sizes as I know this works for me in maintaining a healthy weight. It was, therefore, a delight to discover the GL Diet Freedom approach to glycaemic index and insulin control. It made sense to me, instinctively, to consider the amount of carbohydrate in a portion of a given food as well as how that carbohydrate behaves in the body. Together these 2 factors give one all the information needed to approach eating in a well informed and stress free way. It didn’t take me very long to start to think along these lines whenever planning meals or even eating out. Reading food ingredients and carbohydrates per portion on food labels is now a routine not a chore. Although I confess that I can still find it difficult to find ‘safe’ choices in some types of restaurants – pubs seem to be the hardest, sadly! I continue to live by and recommend a low GL diet with plenty of fresh fruit & veg, lean meat or fish and low fat dairy produce (dietary intolerances or restrictions permitting). When people ask me ‘what is this low GL business?’ I tend to say it is about eating foods which your body needs for energy where the sugars are released steadily and keep you going until the next meal. Then I add – basically it is good healthy food that hasn’t been ‘messed about with’ or ‘over processed’ like so many modern foods that we eat without thinking about these days.

I am a very new member and convert after being a WW stalwart for nearly 20 years. As a vegetarian and a very healthy eater, I was frustrated by the fact that I was having problems losing the 15 or so pounds I had accumulated over the years, even on WW. I was aware of the GI from my reading of the South Beach Diet (not followed I might add) and on a recent trip to the UK was looking for solutions to my problem in a book store. I just knew there had to be something I was doing wrong. I came across a Collins pocket book on GL and the Diet Freedom book was recommended. I bought it and here I am. Fabulous selection of recipes especially for vegetarians like me!

Hi all, you'll be pleased to know I've lost a total of 3 stone. I'm very pleased with myself but want to stop losing weight but am finding it hard as I can't possibly eat any more than I already do, any suggestions? I'm eating more bread and fresh pasta and am still losing 1lb a week. I followed the 7 day GL diet book and just adapted it to my lifestyle. I also improvised some of the recipes to my own liking and have tried food that I’ve never heard of before. For example the chilli garlic soy sauce and olive oil I've roasted vegetables with to give them a bit of a bite. I've made chicken curry using olive oil, curry powder, garlic, tin tomatoes, onions, mushrooms, spinach, peppers and anything I had spare, I either mixed in pearl barley or wild rice. The food range is endless - omelettes with chicken, roasted peppers and onions. This is not a diet as I've still eaten out just chose what I knew was low to medium GL. People can't believe it when I tell them I've eaten strawberries and cream / ice cream, in one month we had a busy social life and ate out 3 times - Chinese, Indian and Italian and I still lost 7lb.
This is the best thing I've ever tried and it has stopped all my sugar cravings as I'm in the menopause and craved chocolate like mad hence me putting on so much weight. My body is even telling me when its time to eat - thanks again!! It's just a way of life for me now and I definitely won't be going back to my old lifestyle - I recommend this diet to everyone who asks how I've lost weight!! Thanks !!!!!!!!!!! Like so many I have spent many years as a serial dieter. I have lurched from diet to diet and my weight has gone up and down like a roller coaster ride. I was a little overweight as a teenager which triggered my diet obsession. I lost weight and by the age of 20 was my ideal weight. Relationships, marriage, divorce saw my weight start to fluctuate again. The birth of my son at the ripe age of 35 gave me weight to get rid of which I did quite easily. However my daughter was born in 2003 and I put on far too much weight this time, much harder to lose. Only now, 3 and a half years later I am almost at my goal weight. I was over 11 stones (I must add I am only 5 feet tall and small boned) when Melissa was born and now weigh 8 and a half stones. I did this with Diet Freedom, with the support of my dear friends at the forum and the guidance of the experts. I started to lose weight successfully on a GI diet then progressed to GL when I realised it made so much sense. This is the only diet I have consistently returned to after falling off track... as we all do! I follow the diet but I have the occasional indulgences and treats, my slow weight loss admittedly being due to a fondness for takeaways and alcohol. Changing my tipple to red wine helped a little and keeping it moderate too. After hitting plateau after plateau I feel I’m moving the right way and can almost start to maintain rather than try to lose.
To sum up I’d add that this is not a breakthrough ‘lose ten pounds in a week miracle diet.’ It’s the way we should eat, it respects our general health as well as our shape. It’s more a way of eating which will get you to where you should be, but getting there is very enjoyable and very easy. I love food and cooking, this has improved my skills and repertoire!
Today is appropriate to give this tribute to DF as I bought myself my long promised pair of white bootcut jeans in a comfy size 10 this afternoon, and I looked at the bikinis too! The whole idea makes so much sense and is helpful with a lot other than weight control. After a while you start to 'think GL'.
Estella, Diet Freedom member
Am really pleased to say I have been following the GL way of eating for just over a week and am really enjoying it. Have had no cravings for anything sweet! Love experimenting with the new recipes and family also enjoy them. Feel I have much more energy and this morning I discovered I have lost 4.5 pounds something I have not been able to do for the last 6 months. Find it difficult not weighing food however it seems to be working.
Margaret, Diet Freedom member
I too have tried all the commercial diets and find GL the best for filling you up, not ruling your life like other diets and being the healthiest.
What I like about DF is, it really isn’t a diet, it’s a new way of eating healthily. No set menus to follow, no weighing and no complicated theories like SW. I did SW off and on for a few years, mostly green, but it wasn't healthy, all that pasta, potatoes, quorn, diet products full of additives and aspartame and they encouraged you to eat pre-packed food. I lived for ages on Batchelors 'Pasta 'n' sauce' Yeuk!!
I think you'll find you can eat a lot more on GL than the miniscule amounts on WW. I like GL, because, apart from not having the sugar swings and subsequent tiredness, you don’t have to weigh and measure. Real freedom. You'll find GL dead easy, no weighing, counting. Once you're into it it just becomes a way of life. I never thought that the thought of chip shop fish and chips would make me feel sick!! You get used to a healthier way of eating.

I was only 34 when diagnosed 9 years ago with diabetes (oops, just gave my age away), and it was a real shocker. It didn't help that all the literature said that T2 affects people over 40. But then I was (and am!) very obese - at that point I was 21 stone. I did succeed in losing some weight, but was always struggling with what to eat and yo-yoing. Emotional / comfort eating has always been a big problem for me, and unfortunately that doesn't go away just because you've got a health problem that needs attention to diet.
Over the last year or two I've piled on a lot of weight, reaching a new high of nearly 22 stone. I started GL eating in May, and so far have lost just over a stone. GL is really good for controlling blood glucose (my levels always drop within a few days of cutting my GL's) - and the diet which DF recommends also has a positive impact on other things that people with diabetes often have trouble with, like lipid profiles and blood pressure. Hope you enjoy it - low GL eating can be really delicious!
Barbara, Diet Freedom member
Thanks for fixing my eating habits! Just wanted to provide a 'testimonial' as I have already got used to eating the low GL way and have lost another stone and am still losing! I have three of your books and love them - this is how we should all be eating! I had lost most of my baby weight, going from 12st 8 lb and a size 18, down to 10st 4 lb and size 14, with various diets, Slimming World and Weight Watchers mainly. I was always hungry, starving myself on 900 cals a day and hour long cardio workouts most days, but I could not lose any more weight. The numbers just didn't add up.
Someone suggested the low GL way on a diet forum. I thought I had nothing to lose as I was stuck at a size 14, really wanting to be a 10 and unable to possibly eat any less or exercise any more. When I first flicked through the books, I couldn't get my head round how much food, and how many calories you can eat - I immediately thought I would put on weight if I ate that much. I decided to take a leap of faith, and I'm glad I did, because 8 weeks on, I weigh 9st 2 lb and fit into those size 10 jeans. And it's still coming off! The dream of ever seeing the weight I was when I got married is not so out of reach, I could easily see myself losing another half a stone, maybe more, as I have now completely got used to eating this way. My husband has even lost a stone without being on the diet, just from eating the meals I have prepared for him. I've forgotten all about wheat bread since I discovered German rye breads and oatcakes, and I've been experimenting with my breadmaker. I can't even remember life before porridge, and sweet potatoes are infinitely tastier than normal spuds. I have developed a love for cooking in general and now cook every day using unprocessed foods, even lentils and beans are a major feature now. Best of all, I now eat (and my family eat) wholesome foods every day, junk is completely off the menu.
We are vegetarian but there has been no problem at all making the two things match as has been the case with previous diets, and most of the recipes can be adapted if they are not veggie to begin with. I have since even been able to become vegan, as I always wanted, as the variety of different foods I now eat is rich enough to provide my nutritional needs without the need for dairy produce. Sorry it's so long! Thank you for your excellent advice and the tireless research that must have gone into this diet.
Zoe Reynolds, Book reader
I can certainly vouch for the GL diet, the support from this site of wonderful people and the Diet Freedom team / philosophy. As some one who lost 2 stone when on track from March to June through exercise and DF I am a 100% devout and biased fan.

Hi there, I signed up a few days ago and have bought the Cook Book. Already I have started to lose weight. A teacher at the school I work at has recommended you and I am really grateful to that. I am now introducing a friend who I have been going to Weightwatchers with (neither of us have had any success!!) and no doubt she will be signing up soon. Many thanks.

I've just finished my first week on my new 'life eating plan' and lost 8lbs! I couldn't believe it.

So, I've been eating this way since around the end of February. Have been eating lots with multiple cheats, and was avoiding stepping on the scales. Gave in to curiosity today and hopped on. My 2 scales differ in the actual number, but the weight difference since I first started is around 10lbs! And better - my body fat on the analyzer scale went from 28.8% to 22.2% and my BMI is nicely in the normal range now. Woo hoo! So glad I left the weighing till now. Not going to step on those things for ages again. They just put me off!! Have found the forum great, even when I haven't posted. The positive feeling is a great motivator. Thanks everybody....xxxxx
Grainne, Diet Freedom member
I don't think of this as being on a diet, I see it as giving my body the kind of fuel it can thrive on in the right quantities and at the right time ... but I don't let that stop me from indulging sometimes in the other sort if it's what I really, really want.
Selina, Diet Freedom member, Norway
This is just the best place ever when it comes to support and advice, always someone around to give a pep-talk or comfort!

I am diabetic (type 1) and have found following Diet Freedom's low GL diet has really helped me to lose weight and balance my blood sugar levels. I don't feel deprived at all on the plan - far from it - it is just excellent guidance given in a very friendly, non preachy way. I highly recommend it to any diabetics who struggle to know what to eat.
Keith Ellis, Book reader, Head of Global Food & Drink, 3i
Many thanks for the book I was so pleased to hear it landing on the mat at 8am today. I had an extra hour in bed and skipped through it. It seems very good, but then all your books have been good, it was the best £7.99 I ever spent way back in Jan 05. I particularly like chapter 8 I think this will help me a great deal as I often don't really get to the bottom of my problems, small goals seem a good idea. I will also be going on line once I have time, at the moment we are clearing out the attics after 32 years of hoarding. Many, many thanks once again for your invaluable help and support.
PS Forgot to let you know that my weight loss for the ten days of January is 8 pounds. Not bad, but it is the first week, I hope to level off to a 2 lb loss per week for the next 51 weeks. Will keep in touch.
Pauline, Diet Freedom member
I have tried various diets over the years and found that they work for a short time but you end up back where you started. With the GL diet it is so easy to just change a few things and I was surprised at how much I could eat and that I didn't crave chocolate and junk food like I had previously. My husband has hardly noticed the change in diet and just thinks I am trying to get him to eat more fruit and veg so he is benefiting from it without realising! (He is a big fan of the cauli mash and loves the Barleyotto's.) The best tip that I can share with you is to plan, plan plan! Each week I sit and plan what I am eating and then go shopping and get organised. Some of the recipes only take a few minutes to throw together and are so tasty. (I would recommend that you invest in one of the books as there are so many tasty recipes in them!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I’ve just received my prize - The GL Diet Made Easy - and can’t praise it enough. It’s got everything in it to fire me up, get me going and keep me keeping on. I plan to use the website much more, too, because I now feel much more a ‘part of the family’ and recognise the value of that kind of support. I went to a 65th birthday party yesterday and my host, a diabetic, eats all the kinds of foods you recommend (and I love) and which, of course, form the basis of good GL. The table was groaning with food, but I’ve never come home from a party feeling more virtuous, yet perfectly satisfied that I’d had a great time and – really – eaten all I wanted. So, thank you again. It feels inadequate to say just that, but I’ve run out of superlatives. Love

Very best wishes to all of you for Christmas and the New Year. This way of eating is a real help to me it has been a difficult year - the diabetes was no surprise really.

Well I'm 26. Before I started the GL plan I weighed 11 stone 7lbs and now I weigh 9 stone 11lbs. Not only did I lose weight, inches and dress sizes, I also gained energy and banished niggling health problems inc. asthma, itchy / flaky scalp, mild acne, and depression. The ‘diet’, if you can call it that, has really helped me out. I'd tried loads of others from Detox to cutting out fat, and they just don't work - and if they do then it's months before you see any difference. I was absolutely amazed at how quickly the weight dropped off - as soon as it began to, it was a fantastic motivator!

Hi Diet Freedom team, It's me, Cuckoo, back home again and thought I'd just let you know that, even after some wonderful Hebridean hospitality (Dolina Macdonald's fruit loaf in particular!!), I've still lost another little bit, making a nice gentle downward trend of three quarters of a stone over the course of a remarkably diet-free three and a half months.

I am back off holiday now and I would like to renew (my membership) as I find Diet Freedom to be the best website.

Dear Diet Freedom, Firstly, of course, THANK YOU for being there. I’ve read the first book (The GL Diet) and am part way through the 7 Day GL Diet. I made a vow recently (after over 10 years of yo-yo dieting) that I would NEVER do another diet again. I promised myself that I would learn to eat healthily on a long-term basis and get in some kind of regular exercise. So I went looking for some kind of book to help. I already knew GI and had heard there was a GL guide out there and thankfully found yours. I like the food education that I’m getting with your books (not that I haven’t read a LOT on diets / nutrition etc. over the years), but yours are the type of guidelines one can easily follow for life, rather than a ‘quick-fix’ diet that leaves you feeling constantly hungry, deprived, food-obsessed and generally MISERABLE !!!
It’s a style of eating, as opposed to a diet dictatorship!! Anyways – I’m sure you get lots of emails, so I’ll wrap it up now. Thanks again for doing a really valuable job.

I have bought the previous 2 books and found them very useful, I have lost a lot of weight and I feel great about myself. I have now bought the cookbook and find the variety of recipes amazing, the areas I have found useful have been the 'fast and friendly recipes' and the section called 'food the loves you back' (what a lovely thought) both full of tasty and EASY recipes which is what I was looking for. Following the GL diet as presented to me via the three books and of course the Diet Freedom web site (which is a god send) I am beginning to understand that I can enjoy food and still remain healthy and happy.

Hi everyone, I've just read and started to put into practice all the fantastic knowledge I've gained from your 2 books, The 7 Day GL Diet and The GL Diet. I'm so excited about the plan I'm determined to give it everything I've got. Whilst reading the books I thought I'd died and gone to heaven!!!!!!!!!!!!! I lost 3 stones on the Atkins diet but I've put it all back on and more, so hopefully this new eating plan will get me back on the straight and narrow. Many Thanks

I just wanted to thank you all for making me realise there's more to life than counting fat & calories & going to slimming clubs week in week out in an attempt to lose weight! I've done both Weight Watchers & Slimming World in the past & although I have lost the weight I wanted to lose, as soon as it came around to holidays or Christmas it all went back on! I think it was because I always felt like I was depriving myself of foods I enjoyed, so come holidays or Christmas I used it as an excuse to go a bit crazy! I joined Diet Freedom at the end of March after a friend told me about the GL Diet & I bought the first book. I'm getting married in Mauritius in September & wanted to lose anything up to a stone to feel comfortable in my wedding dress, so that was my main reason for giving it a try. I've always enjoyed going to the gym, so I had a new gym programme done & started eating low GL & I'm delighted to say I've lost about half a stone in weight, 2 inches off my waist, & 1½ inches each off my bust & hips! I went for my wedding dress fitting on Saturday & even have to have it taken in very slightly, which I never thought would happen in a million years! I have to say I've enjoyed everything I've eaten over the past few months, & have been out for a meal & / or a few glasses of wine every weekend, so I certainly don't feel deprived! I've loved cooking the recipes from the 3 books, & my future husband is enjoying the food as much as I do. I've also noticed that I don't get bloated like I used to, & I don't feel the urge to have a huge binge on junk food that I often had when going to the slimming clubs. The only ‘bad’ thing is that my food shopping now takes twice as long because I'm constantly reading what's in everything to make sure I'm not buying processed rubbish! I think I can live with that though! :-) I'll certainly be sticking with the low GL way of eating, & will recommend it to anyone I know who is looking to be a bit more healthy or lose a few pounds. Thanks again. Best wishes

Welcome to the forum and don’t despair you are amongst people who know what it is like to be over weight and not for the first time either, this web site is so supportive and not just one night a week like the Weighwatchers classes but almost 24 / 7 as usually someone is on at the same time to help you so don’t give up hope of shifting that weight. I was a Weightwatcher leader for over ten years, I put on six and a half stone in my early 20's then lost it all, too quickly and it all went back on again (16st 4lb). I then lost it with Weightwatchers and it took two years, it was a struggle but in those days it was a very limited food plan, then I trained to be a leader and did that for ten years, but due to family problems my health took a bad turn and I resigned. I put all the weight back on again, yep all six and a half stone. I then went back to Weightwatchers and lost two stone but stuck and for a year nothing shifted, I joined the Diet Freedom club in November and started to work the GL into my every day food plans, I still went to Weightwatchers with a friend that I encouraged to join and was doing well, but I gave up in January, because I realised that the GL is a much healthier diet, now I never thought I would ever hear myself say that something was better than Weightwatchers as I believed it was the bees knees, but this is better. Just you follow the menus and make sure you eat enough, do your best and let your body do the rest.

I thought I would cheer myself up this morning by weighing myself, even though I hadn't planned to do so until May 1st. And I am absolutely delighted with the result! I started this diet on March 6th, and in the six-and-a-bit weeks since then, have lost a total of ... 15 lbs! Making 6 lbs lost since my last weigh-in only two and a half weeks ago. I am taking as little exercise as ever, so I have to attribute my improved girth to the diet. Diet Freedom is definitely a very workable plan - and fits in well with family life. It is easy to build meals around this sort of food, supplementing a basic low-GL core with higher-GL accompaniments and extras (such as cakes and potatoes) for the rest of the family. I am very pleasantly surprised to find that it also helps me to lose weight!

Hey, great to come back after a week of not logging on to find all the success stories. I have never tried to lose weight in this kind of 'group' setting before and it is helping me a lot to have these forums to be able to get inspiration from. So thanks everyone!!

Yesterday I collected my two big girls from school to find my eldest in a terrible state. She was white as a sheet, slightly clammy and shaking. It turned out that they'd had the biggest dorm feast ever, with the most sweets and fizzy drinks on record for the girl's house. A classic case of sugar overload ... Needless to say, she wasn't very nice to be around - but two low-GL meals later, she'd come back down to earth and actually managed to sleep through the night - thank you to the DF team for giving me the knowledge to cope with this kind of blood-sugar overload!
She's now happily tucking into low-GL options and I'm hoping it will continue. In fact, she reckons that products such as Fruisana and Agave Syrup, not to mention the low-sugar St. Dalfour spreads, are much tastier than the usual, sugar-laden options. So, fingers crossed, she'll stick to lower GL for the holidays, and won't over-indulge too much once she gets back to school. To give them their due, the children are not permitted sweets or sugary foods except for the last night of term, when they are permitted to stay up late (about 10.30 ) and eat as many sweets as they can ... Thank you team for Diet Freedom - it's making a huge difference to our lives.

I can't believe how much I feel in control of things now after only two weeks of acquainting myself with the whole system. It is truly Diet Freedom ... no counting sins or points or calories, no weighing and calculating .... Blessings on the Team for thinking up this one!! Love

I had been gaining weight steadily since my diagnosis of PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome). It felt like everything was going wrong at once and I was in a real downward spiral. I knew my diet wasn't great before, but it wasn't until I tried the GL diet I realised the difference what you ate could make. After just a week I had more energy than ever, and friends could not believe how well I looked. I'm finally back in control of my weight and feel for the first time in two years that I can influence how my PCOS affects me instead of being beholden to how it makes me feel.
Simone, Diet Freedom member
Thank you for the amazing things that your diet has given me, like my life back!! My close friend had been diagnosed with PCOS, and when she described it to me I discovered that I had the same symptoms - excessive hair growth (hair visible on my face and after shaving my legs they would stay smooth for only about 12 hours), adult acne and cycles lasting up to 160 days, plus painful periods that would confine me to my bed. However I was not obese in anyway. I had my son in Jan 2004 and straight away went to my doctor to see if he could tell me if I had PCOS, he told me that I didn’t because I was not overweight and that I could conceive, but in my mind PCOS I felt certain I had PCOS.
Eventually I insisted on having a scan which confirmed PCOS. I was feeling increasingly unwell, my symptoms included dizziness, energy loss and feeling ‘drunk’. I researched this and discovered that I may be Hypoglycaemic, which ties in with the Insulin Resistance that comes with PCOS, or is as some say the root cause of PCOS. I went to my doctor who said that it was probably anaemia, so we checked and my iron levels were high, so it wasn’t that, so he told me it was just the pregnancy. I went to see another doctor and cried and cried until he agreed to help. He assessed my symptoms and did a test with my blood pressure and said I had Hypoglycaemia. OK, so then he told me that I had to eat lots of complex carbs his words ‘lots of tatties and pasta and you’ll be fine’.
I did what he said and a month later felt no better, I was still waking up in the morning and almost crawling through to the kitchen because of the intense dizziness. So I researched diets and low and behold found the GL diet. WOW! I have now been on it for two weeks and I am a new person and I would not go back if you paid me!! I have energy and I am no longer dizzy. The strangest change is though my legs are not as hairy, so I am wondering if my LH levels are decreasing? So exciting!
What I want to do now is to raise awareness in the NHS that doctors are not as clued up or willing to spend time on PCOS as they could be. If as a member of the public, who has no medical background I can find out about it then surely a doctor can! I also want to raise awareness as to the impact the GL diet has on your health when it comes to blood sugar problems!! It is phenomenal!! Thank you a million times for your help and the DIET!!
Big hugs

I always thought jacket potatoes were very healthy until I found out the effect they have on your blood sugars. It was the educational aspect that appealed to me. I suffer from IBS but since changing my diet I don't feel at all bloated. I also noticed the mood balancing effect of changing to lower glycaemic foods - particularly with improving PMS and stress. Because you can still eat 'normal' foods my family are quite happy eating this way and haven't complained at all. There is a lot more to it than weight loss.
Jacky, Diet Freedom member
I lost a stone on the Diet Freedom plan. I am very active but despite exercising, going to the gym twice a week as well as running I couldn't get rid of the last stone. By changing the foods I eat I lost a stone over a couple of months and seemed to be eating more food than before. I continue to follow the guide lines and the weight hasn't come back so I am thrilled and have recommended several friends and colleagues to try it. My skin has also improved noticeably and I have had compliments to say I look well and younger!

Of all the many good things to come in Diet Freedom’s second book The 7-Day GL Diet, this is probably in the long run the most important thing - real lives, real people, practical shopping and eating plans. It has really been a privilege to have some input and know it's been listened to. Thank you.

I love the current book and can't wait to buy the new one! Am considering selling all the other diet books I own. I doubt that I will find anyone interested in them here on the Diet Freedom forums though... Well done all.

I was already GI-ing before GL-ing but it made a difference to me in that I lost the last half a stone I needed to.

lost 2 stone, dropped 2 dress sizes and changed my overall shape with Diet Freedom and have maintained the loss, despite introducing more moderate glycaemic foods. I found the change of eating habits very easy. I did experience a detox effect initially and found drinking lots of water helped. Instead of a saunter I can walk briskly now. Having read a lot of books on the GI - I think the overall glycaemic load is the crucial part.
Brenda, Diet Freedom member
I have lost 1½ stone. Best of all I have found it easy to maintain the loss as I now know what to eat. I had never managed to lose the weight I gained after my second child and to be honest was very sceptical at first. I have a busy lifestyle as a teacher and working Mum, but found it easy to follow and packed lunches are no problem. As a vegetarian I was really pleased to find loads of vegetarian recipes, which are very good - I have used them a lot. My thighs were the first part to slim down, I lost 4 inches very quickly and there is no wobbling now! The most amazing thing for me was that after only a short time on the diet I no longer craved crisps, chocolate or puddings. I have a lot more self confidence now and feel so much better! I dragged a few of my teacher friends to the classes and they have also lost weight.

I had 12lbs I wanted to lose and although other diets had worked, it was the beginning of a new year and I felt like a new 'challenge'! Sometimes a fresh approach is what you need to kick-start you. Not only did the diet work - I reached my target weight in two months, and found my digestive problems virtually disappeared: no more bloating, etc. But what I really appreciate is the education I got about food. The more I know about food, and its effect on me, the more able I am to make sensible, balanced choices about what I eat, without becoming a pernickety food-fad.

I was due to have a hip replacement operation and needed to lose weight but was told that as I was in constant pain, could barely walk with a stick and certainly not do any kind of exercise this would be virtually impossible. Because of the pain the temptation to comfort eat was also a problem. I decided to go along (with my stick!) to the trial Diet Freedom meetings at my local health club - and lost 11 pounds which is a lot for me as I am only 4 foot 10! I found the educational side and re-learning what to eat an inspiration. The weight loss gave me a real psychological boost and I have now had both my hips replaced and am recovering well. I have also recommended Diet Freedom to many of my friends who are also losing weight. The recipes are quick and easy - just as well as my husband has been doing the cooking whilst I have been ill!

I had been diagnosed with Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome, and had been trying to lose weight for years with very slow progress. I literally thought the only way I would ever get the weight I'd gained off was by starving myself. I couldn't believe it when I found Diet Freedom - food I loved, never feeling hungry and best of all I dropped 2 dress sizes in just over a month! The weight is easy to keep off, because Diet Freedom has just become a way of life. I have the energy and the enthusiasm to exercise and feel so positive - it's like I've been put back in the driving seat!
M McCall, Diet Freedom member
Thanks guys - You're stars to reply so quickly! Just want to add how much I'm enjoying the ‘diet’, although it's more of a plan for life I'd say. I've tried lots of others to lose the stone and a half I'd like to lose, but have never kept them up in the long-term and the weight's gone back on. I've now lost half a stone on the GL in three weeks and I can honestly say I can see myself staying on it for ever, well following the 80 / 20 rule anyway once I get to target weight. Am loving the forums too. Best money I've spent in ages! KOKO (keep on keeping on) guys.

In the two weeks I've been following this way of life, I haven't stopped eating, I haven't felt hungry, I've continued with a glass of red wine in the evenings, I've had the odd bit of chocolate and I've still lost 7lbs. Can't be bad - I only wish I'd come across it sooner. Thanks to all involved with the books, the forum and all its members.

I can't wait to get my copy of the latest book. I just want to say how much more in control I feel over what I eat (the first time in years!) and if I stray on the odd occasion, then I don't beat myself up over it or feel that it's an excuse for an absolute blow out. Congratulations to everyone!

Bought the GL Diet book last week and have read it cover to cover - OMG, how much sense does it make! I do generally eat a healthy balanced diet however I had no idea that the type of carbs eaten had such an influence on how I felt and has totally explained why the cravings occurred.
On Monday I made a conscious effort to change the type of foods that I ate and so far so good - I have not had a single craving for any type of food. I no longer ‘need’ that biscuit with my coffee or the packet of crisps as an afternoon snack - I just hope that I will continue to feel this way with my new eating lifestyle. I must say even though I have only been following the GL plan for a week I have already started to notice a difference with my energy levels. I no longer feel tired in the afternoon, whereas before I would normally be yawning my head off by 3 o'clock! Thanks again.
Kim, Book reader
I've lost 6lbs in 2 weeks, so I'm thrilled. I have PCOS and endometriosis, so the PCOS makes losing weight super hard and so the 6lbs are even more exciting! I've lost 4lbs this week, so I'm down 6lbs since the start of the month!! I'm thrilled. My other half lost 2lbs this week, so he's down 4lbs since the start of the month.

I loved the first book and didn’t think they could make anything as good but yet again the team haven’t let us down and it’s full of wonderful ideas and recipes. I really love the new book – The 7 Day GL Diet, not that the last one wasn’t great but I suppose now I’ve been on here for a while and even met the team at the exhibition this year it brings them to life. The different plans are a great idea making it feel so free and taking into account all walks of life. The way it is written is friendly, fun and not dictatorial. However it gets across the message of the importance of the diet. I loved the part about exercise, great approach for someone like me who used to love walking but never has time – 10 -15 minutes is something I cannot say I do not have time for so I’m going to make an honest effort to do that as often as I can. Andie, Diet Freedom member
Reading posts from regulars has been so inspiring and helpful. Not to mention how handy it is to have the Diet Freedom team answering any questions. So nice to find a supportive forum.

Started with GI, found it a bit misleading and confusing sometimes, then someone mentioned GL, bought the book and decided to try this instead as it had the same kind of basic principles but seemed to have more sense!
Chris, Diet Freedom member
One recent social occasion with food was party food, not a meal and I found it really easy to stick to the low GL things, that meant I did not get into my usual 'I might as well have loads as I've gone off my diet' frame of mind. I do think this style of eating puts me much more in control, I am not always trying to work out ways of having more food, which makes me feel for the first time on a diet that I can 'keep on keeping up'. One pound a week tends to be my weight loss on all diets nowadays but this has been so much easier than other diets. I am finding the temptation tamers helpful and I've written my own list.
