Forget GI it's only half the picture - it's the load that counts!

The GL reference was devised by Harvard University as a more accurate and relevant reference than GI alone.

You will have many more food choices than other restrictive diets, including diet plans based on GI alone.

GL is the intelligent, scientific step to permanent weight loss - the final piece of the jigsaw in carbohydrate management.

The 7-Day GL Diet includes:

  • What GL is and the scientific reasons why it is superior to GI.
  • Extensive food lists - check out which foods banned on GI diets are back on the menu.
  • Three 7-day plans to suit your lifestyle - 'Fast and Friendly' (if time and convenience are key), 'Veggie Friendly' and 'Foodie Friendly' (for keen cooks).
  • Simple, every day recipes, clear menu plans, quick-reference shopping lists.
  • Following our original GL Diet book you said you'd like more portion guidance and in depth GL lists - so we have included these in The 7-Day GL Diet.
  • Plus loads more recipes of course, including a few you sent in! Thank you - you know who you are!

Although the GI of a food is helpful information, it is only part of the story, because the effect of eating a food on blood glucose and insulin levels depends on both the amount of carbohydrate and the GI of that carbohydrate. For this reason the concept of the 'Glycaemic Load' or GL has been developed. This is the amount of carbohydrate in a food multiplied by the Glycaemic Index of that carbohydrate. The GL better reflects a food's effect on your body's biochemistry than either the amount of carbohydrate or the GI alone. This is important - some diet books have warned against eating carrots because they have a high GI, which slanders this fine food that only has a small amount of carbohydrate.'
Walter C Willett MD Dr PH, Chairman of the Department of Nutrition at the Harvard School of Public Health and Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School.

What the readers say -

Sam Briggs - Diet Freedom member

I bought the 7-Day GL Diet and lost a stone in the first two weeks which really surprised me as I had eaten 5 times a day and never been really hungry!!! (And I got to eat chocolate! ). Since then I have joined the site to find out more and I have asked for the new book for Christmas (hoping that reading that will help keep me away from temptation over Christmas!).

Clair - Reader

Dear Diet Freedom, Firstly, of course, THANK YOU for being there. I’ve read the first book (The GL Diet) and am part way through the 7-Day GL Diet. I made a vow recently (after over 10 years of yo-yo dieting) that I would NEVER do another diet again. I promised myself that I would learn to eat healthily on a long-term basis and get in some kind of regular exercise. So I went looking for some kind of book to help. I already knew Gi and had heard there was a GL guide out there and thankfully found yours. I like the food education that I’m getting with your books (not that I haven’t read a LOT on diets/nutrition etc. over the years), but yours are the type of guidelines one can easily follow for life, rather than a “quick-fix” diet that leaves you feeling constantly hungry, deprived, food-obsessed and generally MISERABLE !!!
It’s a style of eating, as opposed to a diet dictatorship!! Anyways – I’m sure you get lots of emails, so I’ll wrap it up now. Thanks again for doing a really valuable job.
